koray@korays.comFrequently Asked Questions
Where do the exchange rates come from?
The primary source is the Bank of Canada Valet API, which provides official daily indicative mid-market rates. The Currency Calculator also offers rates from the European Central Bank and FloatRates as alternative sources.
Are the bank rate estimates accurate?
Bank rate estimates are approximations based on configurable markup ranges. Actual rates vary by bank, transaction type, amount, and account level. Use them as a guide and always verify with your bank before converting.
Does the app work offline?
Yes. The app caches the most recently fetched rates locally. When there's no internet connection, it displays the cached rates with an "Offline" indicator showing when they were last updated.
What does the sell signal mean?
The sell signal fires when the current exchange rate exceeds the moving average by your configured threshold percentage. It suggests the rate is above its recent trend and may be a favorable time to convert. It's not financial advice.
How do I back up my exchange log?
Open the Exchange Log screen, tap the menu icon (top left), and select "Export CSV". This creates a spreadsheet file you can save, email, or store in your preferred cloud service.
Can I import exchange records from a spreadsheet?
Yes. Prepare a CSV file with columns: Date, Amount, CAD Received (and optionally Effective Rate). Then use "Import CSV" from the Exchange Log menu. The app accepts multiple date formats.
Is my data shared with anyone?
No. All data is stored locally on your device. The app does not collect, transmit, or share any personal information. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
When are Bank of Canada rates updated?
The Bank of Canada typically publishes daily indicative rates after 16:30 ET on business days. The app's default daily check is set to 17:00 ET, which you can adjust in Settings.
What is the tax period feature?
If you receive foreign income, you may need to report conversions at an average rate for tax purposes. The tax period feature tracks the average rate over your configured period and shows how your actual conversions compare.
